Amoenus, White Bamboo, Ghost Bamboo (Dendrocalamus minor var. Amoenus)
Amoenus is a variety of Dendrocalamus minor; a small member of a large family of giant clumping bamboos. Amoenus means pleasant, or delightful. It's a traditional ornamental, very tropical-looking, with large leaves on a tight clump about 8 metres high. New shoots and culms are heavily covered in white powder, turn pale green, and mature to yellow green with darker stripes. This is one of our most cold hardy bamboos, and easily handles our coldest south-westerly winds and frost without damage. A very fast growing bamboo with a long growing season, new growth appearing at the end of winter, with or before our earliest varieties.
