Stripestem Fernleaf Hedging Bamboo (Bambusa multiplex var. SSFL)

Stripestem Fernleaf is a shorter and more upright variety of Bambusa multiplex that grows slowly into a 3-4 metre bushy plant. The culms are green with yellow stripes and it has small fern-like leaves. At 3-4 metres and very compact it is popular for a short screen or hedge. Although very cold tolerant, it is a slow growing bamboo.
We no longer grow this bamboo at all and do not recommend it any longer. It is so slow growing, a bit fussy about soil and pH, and one of the worst affected bamboos by the Noxious Bamboo Mealy Bugs.
