This popular bamboo is a very cold hardy plant that thrives in moist, sheltered, shady conditions. Will not stand full sun for long, and does not like wind, (especially hot dry winds) but in a sheltered shady spot grows well, into a 3-4 metre plant with masses of small drooping leaves. Can be trimmed for a good indoor bamboo plant. Easy to propagate and highly ornamental, but only easy to grow in suitable sites. This bamboo is a prolific grower that can go shabby in winter, losing leaves, but revives in spring with masses of new foliage again, before it shoots. Marketed as "Blue Bamboo", but it's not blue like Chungi or even Bambusa textilis (and Gracilis).

We no longer grow this bamboo because of it's limited application in only the most sheltered and shady sites. It becomes far too shabby in winter to be suitable for most gardens. It is also unfortunately very prone to Bamboo Spider Mite infestations which spoils it's appearance.
